Curating a Museum and Exploring Holidays

Welcome to the SSYZ where fun and learning go hand in hand!

Normally we just post one weekly re-cap but we just have too much cool stuff going on to wait!

First lets check out what they have been doing with Joann at EVPL East…

The kids spent two days creating and curating their own museum!

They worked in small groups of 2-3. Learning how to put a power-point together, effectively search for pictures/ content, a taste of what a curator does, and for some, learning how to use a computer.

I will say this has been one of the coolest activities this fall. They were just so engaged and excited about it. Tomorrow they will be presenting the museums to the group, so more pictures to come on this project!

Exploring Holidays…

Holidays are a great way explore other cultures through their traditions. Today the kids learned about Hanukkah! The favorite part is when they played the game dreidel. I wish I would have remembered to take pictures of it but as usual we were engrossed with the kids, lol. It’s surprising how competitive they can get when little chocolate coins are involved!!

Art and Legos…

Our doors open at 3pm and programming starts at 4pm, so we always have some free time. The three most popular things to do are legos, art, and puzzles! It is absolutely amazing the creativity of a child. There is something priceless about sitting next to a kid, chatting, all while they build a lighting tower to fuel a base, that grows food… yes this is how our days get to start.Have I said recently that we have the coolest job!

I can’t wait to share the rest of our week on Sat!
